FRSC: Tired Driver Caused Tragic Ilorin-Jebba Accident

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has attributed the tragic road crash that claimed the lives of 15 travellers along the Ilorin-Jebba Expressway on Monday, July 6, to driver fatigue.

FRSC Sector Commander, Kabiru Kazeem, identified the truck driver as Nasiru Muhammed, stating that the lone crash occurred near the Muslim Cemetery along the Ogbomoso–Oko Olowo section of the Ilorin-Jebba Expressway in Kwara State.
According to him, a total of 48 male passengers were involved in the accident. Fifteen people died, 17 sustained varying degrees of injuries, while 16 escaped unhurt.
Kazeem said the injured victims suffered fractures, dislocations and bruises in the crash involving a DAF truck with registration number XF GWL274XC.
He explained that those injured were taken to Arewa Medical Centre and Baki Hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were released to their families through the Sarkin Hausawa of Oko Olowo in Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The FRSC Sector Commander added that rescue teams were still searching for possible victims trapped beneath the truck’s load. He noted that the operation was jointly carried out by personnel of RS8.15 Oloru and RS8.1 Kwara (Oko Olowo Outpost).
Kazeem also advised motorists to avoid mixed loading and night journeys, stressing the importance of adequate rest before embarking on long-distance trips.
