FG unveils expert advisory committee to drive Nigeria’s economic reforms.
The Federal Government has inaugurated a new Ministerial Advisory Committee (MAC) comprising economists, public finance experts and private sector leaders to support economic policymaking and accelerate the implementation of ongoing fiscal reforms across the country.
The committee was inaugurated in Abuja by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Prof. Taiwo Oyedele. Members include Sterling Bank Managing Director Abubakar Suleiman, Chief Executive Officer of Economic Associates, Dr. Ayo Teriba, President of the Capital Market Academics of Nigeria, Prof. Uche Uwaleke, Director-General of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Chinyere Almona, as well as other professionals from various sectors.
Oyedele said the committee was established to strengthen collaboration between the government and the private sector by bridging the gap between policy formulation and implementation. He explained that members would provide independent, research-based and practical advice to help improve economic decision-making.
According to the minister, the committee will assess government policies, identify potential economic risks and recommend practical solutions aimed at enhancing the impact of reforms on businesses and citizens. He added that the administration is focused on delivering tangible outcomes, including increased job creation, lower inflation, improved investor confidence and better living standards.
He noted that the government has already implemented key reforms such as the removal of fuel subsidy, the unification of the foreign exchange market and tax system reforms. Oyedele said the priority is now to ensure these measures achieve their intended objectives.
The minister clarified that the advisory committee would not replace the functions of existing government agencies or exercise executive authority. Instead, it will operate as an independent advisory body, offering objective analysis and practical recommendations to support the Ministry of Finance in implementing its economic agenda.
