BREAKING :ADC, Accord Secure Major Court Victory Ahead of 2027

The Court of Appeal has set aside the judgment of the Federal High Court that proscribed the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Accord Party, and other affected political parties.

The appellate court held that the Forum of Former Legislators, which instituted the suit seeking the deregistration of the parties, lacked the legal standing (locus standi) to file the case. The panel found this issue to be fundamental and ruled that the lower court’s judgment could not stand.
Justice Peter Odo Lifu stated that the absence of locus standi rendered the entire suit incompetent, leading the court to nullify and dismiss the judgment of the Federal High Court. The judgment, delivered by Justice Abba Bello, also awarded a cost of ₦1 million against the Forum of Former Legislators.
The ruling was in favour of the ADC, Accord Party, and three other political parties. Ahead of the 2027 general election, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has emerged as the ADC’s presidential candidate, while Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke is set to seek a second term on the Accord Party platform in the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
