Army Repels Bandits, Saves Rector and 21 Victims in Zamfara
Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have thwarted a series of kidnap attempts in Zamfara State, rescuing the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, Dr.
The Nigerian Army disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North West, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja.
According to the statement, the first operation occurred in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area after armed terrorists invaded the residence of the polytechnic rector in an attempt to abduct him and members of his family. During the attack, the gunmen reportedly killed the rector’s private security guard and injured another resident before troops arrived at the scene.
The soldiers engaged the attackers in a gun battle, forcing them to abandon the kidnap attempt and flee. Dr. Yusuf and his family were safely rescued during the operation.
In another operation, troops responded to a distress call from Tungan Dorawa in Barkeji Village, where armed men were attempting to abduct residents. The soldiers pursued the fleeing terrorists through difficult terrain, successfully preventing the abduction.
Around the same time, another team of troops confronted suspected terrorists who had targeted a businessman, Alhaji Azaria, in the same community. The intervention led to the rescue of the businessman and 21 other victims who had already been abducted from nearby homes.
The military also announced the arrest of a 45-year-old suspect, Falalu Yusuf, who is alleged to have provided information to the attackers. He has since been handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation.
The Army said the successful operations reflect the resolve of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to intensify the fight against banditry and kidnapping across Zamfara State and the wider North-West region.
