Davido eyes billions beyond music, fans beg him not to quit

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has hinted at leaving the music industry to focus on making billions, a statement that has sparked mixed reactions from fans on social media.
The singer made the comment while responding to Nigerian rapper Erigga, who had praised musicians who built successful careers without relying on family wealth.
Erigga had written on X: “Shoutout to all the musicians who don’t come from family money and had to grind for every single dollar they earn.”
Davido, whose father is billionaire businessman Adedeji Adeleke, appeared to respond to the post by speaking about his future in music.
“No worry o I go soon leave their music for una go make my billions… then that it gonna be boring AF,” he wrote.
The singer later questioned whether people genuinely preferred financial hardship, asking his followers: “Deep down, who like poverty?”
His comments quickly generated debate online, with some fans insisting that the music industry would feel his absence, while others argued that Afrobeats would continue to thrive with or without him.
Several supporters urged Davido not to abandon music, while others encouraged him to pursue his financial ambitions if that was what he wanted.

Defending the singer amid the criticism, Western Solar Energy wrote: “Omo why this hatred and harsh words on Davido. I’m sad seeing all this comments. This guy here is our legend. Let’s respect legend. He’s have been on top of the music game since when I was little he deserves so much respect.”
