Nigerian Senate Introduces Six New Bills, Passes First Reading

On January 28, 2026, the Nigerian Senate introduced six new bills, all of which passed their first reading during plenary.


Among the bills presented is the Gifted and Talented Centres Establishment Bill, 2026 (HB. 931), sponsored by Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, representing Ekiti Central.

Also introduced was the National Economic Coordinating and Intelligence Committee Bill, 2026 (SB. 226) by Senator Olugbenga Justus Daniel of Ogun East, alongside the National Centre for Economic Management Act (Amendment) Bill, 2026 (SB. 851) sponsored by Senator Shehu Lawan Kaka, representing Borno Central.

Other bills that scaled first reading include the Veterinary Teaching Hospitals Bill, 2026 (SB. 896), sponsored by Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno of Borno North, and the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management (Enforcement) Bill, 2026 (SB. 988), introduced by Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South.

The sixth bill is the National Farmers and Agriculturists Protection Board (Establishment) Bill, 2026 (SB. 987), sponsored by Senator Ezenwa Francis Onyewuchi, representing Imo East.

All six bills were formally read for the first time during the Senate’s plenary session.
