Akpabio Expresses Confidence in Nigeria–U.S. Military Collaboration Against Terrorism

The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has expressed confidence that sustained military collaboration between Nigeria and the United States in the fight against terrorism will restore peace and stability across the country.

Senator Akpabio made this known during a Senate plenary session while welcoming his colleagues back from the Christmas and New Year recess.

He acknowledged the efforts and progress recorded in recent times by the Nigerian military in the ongoing crackdown on terrorist hideouts nationwide.

According to him, the successes achieved so far reflect President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening national security and affirm Nigeria’s resolve to work with its allies in confronting forces that threaten the peace and stability of the country.

The Senate President also condoled with the families, friends, and colleagues of those killed, as well as those still being held captive by terrorists.

He urged his colleagues to respond with urgency to the grim realities confronting the nation, particularly through legislation and oversight, following warnings by the United Nations that over 35 million Nigerians may face hunger this year.

On behalf of the Senate, Senator Akpabio further extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Senator Godiya Akwashiki, who represented Nasarawa North and passed away on December 31, 2025.

The Senate subsequently observed a minute of silence in honour of the late senator before adjourning the sitting earlier than the usual close of the legislative session.
