Veteran Nigerian gospel singer and evangelist Toun Soetan, widely known as Evangelist Shouet, has passed away at the age of 73.
Renowned as the original composer of the beloved Christian chorus Darling Jesus, her music has been cherished in churches across Nigeria and around the world for decades.
Over a career spanning more than 40 years, Soetan dedicated her life to gospel music and evangelism, becoming one of the most recognized voices in Yoruba gospel. Her songs were celebrated for inspiring and uplifting Christians, and in the early 1990s, many of her worship choruses gained widespread popularity in churches and revival gatherings.
In addition to Darling Jesus, she recorded other cherished hymns including Ke Pe Jesu and Cast Your Burdens, which have become staples in Christian worship services.
