Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has reiterated his administration’s commitment to protecting the lives and property of all citizens and residents, including members of the Muslim community in the state.

The governor made this known on Friday at the Government House in Port Harcourt while receiving a delegation of the Muslim Ummah led by Alhaji Nasir Uhor, Vice President-General of the Rivers State Council for Islamic Affairs. The delegation, which included Islamic clerics and leaders of the Arewa community in the state, visited as part of activities marking the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
Fubara stressed that all residents, regardless of their state of origin or religious affiliation, should be regarded as indigenes of Rivers State due to their contributions to its socio-economic development. He assured them that the government would continue to ensure their safety and well-being.
He commended the Muslim faithful for their dedication during the Ramadan fast, describing the period as spiritually significant. Addressing security concerns such as farmer-herder conflicts experienced in other parts of the country, the governor noted that Rivers State has maintained relative peace through strategic engagement and collaboration with security agencies.
He, however, urged Muslim leaders to strengthen internal communication within their communities to promote peaceful conduct among members. According to him, collective responsibility is essential to sustaining peace in the state.
Fubara also acknowledged the longstanding relationship between the state government and the Muslim community, appreciating their support and prayers. He assured the delegation that their earlier requests were under consideration and would be addressed in line with the state’s capacity.
In his remarks, Alhaji Uhor thanked the governor for receiving the delegation and for promoting religious inclusiveness. He presented key requests, including the construction of an ultra-modern central mosque in Port Harcourt, the return of the Muslim section of the Port Harcourt Cemetery to the council to ease burial challenges, and the allocation of land for a mosque at Rivers State University.
