NUJ FCT Council calls for stronger collaboration among authorities to tackle rising socio-economic challenges affecting residents and improve public welfare.
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, has called for sustained collaboration among relevant authorities to address emerging socio-economic concerns affecting residents of the Federal Capital Territory and Nigerians in general.
The appeal was contained in a communiqué issued at the Council’s Congress held in Abuja, where members reviewed matters relating to public welfare and national development.
During the Congress, members observed that the rising cost of petrol continues to exert pressure on household expenses and encouraged the Federal Government of Nigeria to explore measures that could help ease the situation.
The Congress also urged the Federal Capital Territory Administration to intensify efforts toward improving access to potable water in parts of the territory in order to enhance public health outcomes.
Furthermore, the Council appealed to the Federal Government of Nigeria to accelerate efforts aimed at improving electricity supply and implementing the new minimum wage, noting that such measures would provide much-needed relief for workers and residents.
The communiqué also encouraged coordinated action by relevant agencies to address environmental and safety concerns, including waste management, deforestation, street welfare issues, and the activities of “one chance” robbery syndicates, in order to promote the overall well-being of the public.
