“Falsehoods won’t stand” — SDP chairmen back Gabam, threaten legal action over misinformation

The Forum of Social Democratic Party (SDP) State Chairmen has declared that it will no longer tolerate the reckless spread of falsehoods, calculated mischief, and desperate efforts to destabilize the party by individuals who have lost both legal standing and moral credibility.

In a statement issued to journalists in Abuja on Friday, the forum said its attention had been drawn to what it described as baseless, misleading, and laughable claims by a purported party officer, Mr. Rufus Aiyenigba. It accused him of continuing to promote a false narrative that Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam was not reinstated as the National Chairman of the SDP, and that Sadiq Abubakar Gombe remains in office.
The statement, signed by Hon. Danlami Musa, Secretary of the SDP Forum of State Chairmen and Nasarawa State SDP Chairman, described the claim as not only false but a blatant distortion of a clear and settled judicial pronouncement.
“Let it be stated without ambiguity that the Court of Appeal has spoken clearly, decisively, and finally.
“In a unanimous judgment delivered on 27th March, 2026, in Suit Nos. CA/ABJ/CV/126/2026 and CA/ABJ/CV/127/2026, the appellate court completely dismantled the defective and fraudulent foundation upon which the earlier Federal High Court judgment stood, set that judgment aside in its entirety, and reaffirmed Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam (Makama Tilde) as the legitimate National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, while unequivocally removing Sadiq Abubakar Gombe from his illegal position.
“What is even more alarming is the extent of judicial misrepresentation uncovered, where certain actors, including Prince Adebayo Adewole and his collaborators, relied on a phantom judgment that never existed to mislead the lower court into delivering a perverse ruling—an act that goes beyond politics and strikes at the integrity of the judiciary and democratic order.”
The forum called on relevant security and law enforcement agencies to investigate and prosecute all individuals involved in what it described as calculated judicial deception, stressing that the era of manipulating the courts for selfish political ambitions must end.
It further stated that the misinformation campaign had failed and stands exposed as either a result of gross ignorance of the law or a deliberate attempt to mislead the public.
“It is particularly troubling that an individual who parades himself as an officer of the party would, after the clear and unambiguous judgment of the Court of Appeal, still claim that Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam was not reinstated and that an illegally removed individual remains in office.
“Such statements raise serious concerns about his ability to properly read and understand a straightforward judicial pronouncement, leaving Nigerians to question whether this persistent falsehood is driven by ignorance or a willful refusal to accept the truth.
“Let this serve as a final warning that any further attempt to distort the judgment of the Court of Appeal or impersonate authority within the SDP will attract immediate legal consequences.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Federal High Court judgment delivered on 19th January, 2026, has been completely nullified for want of jurisdiction and for being manifestly perverse, and therefore holds no weight, authority, or relevance whatsoever,” the statement said.
The forum added that the SDP is not a platform for impostors, opportunists, or political merchants of confusion, but a party guided by law, order, and legitimacy. It emphasized that the truth has prevailed, the law has run its full course, and no amount of propaganda or desperation can overturn a settled judgment of a superior court.
