The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has reported a notable rise in Nigeria’s crude oil production, attributing the improvement to enhanced pipeline security measures across the Niger Delta.

The Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd, Bayo Ojulari, made this known during a Parliamentary Roundtable on the State of Pipeline Security held at the National Assembly of Nigeria in Abuja.
Ojulari disclosed that oil production increased from a historic low of 960,000 barrels per day in 2022 to an average of 1.71 million barrels per day, with peak production hitting 1.84 million barrels per day in 2025.
He explained that the progress was achieved through an integrated energy security framework aimed at safeguarding critical oil infrastructure and reducing disruptions.
According to him, the strategy involves coordination between legislative and executive policies, intelligence gathering, security operations, regulatory oversight, and active engagement with host communities.
Ojulari noted that the initiative has helped tackle longstanding issues such as oil theft and pipeline vandalism, which previously affected production levels. He added that the improved security situation has boosted investor confidence in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, creating a more stable environment for growth.
In his remarks, the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, represented by Jimoh Ibrahim, called for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to sustain the progress achieved.
Similarly, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, represented by Julius Ihonvbere, urged participants to review the gains recorded and ensure fairness and equity within the sector.
The roundtable, organised by the Joint Senate and House Committees on Petroleum Resources, brought together key security chiefs, government officials, regulators, and private sector stakeholders to assess strategies for maintaining pipeline security and increasing production.
