Trump signals possible end to Iran conflict within weeks, outlines conditions for U.S. withdrawal
Former U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that the United States could bring its military campaign against Iran to an end within two to three weeks.
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office at the White House, Trump stated, “We’ll be leaving very soon,” adding that the withdrawal could happen “within two weeks, maybe two weeks, maybe three.”
The statement marks his most definitive indication yet that he plans to wind down the month-long conflict, which has significantly reshaped the Middle East, disrupted global energy markets, and influenced the course of his presidency.
Trump also noted that Tehran is not required to reach any agreement with Washington for the conflict to end.
“Iran doesn’t have to make a deal, no,” he said when asked whether diplomacy was necessary for the U.S. to disengage. “No, they don’t have to make a deal with me.”
He explained that the key condition for ending the operation is ensuring that Iran is effectively weakened to the point where it cannot quickly develop a nuclear weapon.
“Then we’ll leave,” he added.
