Another Nigerian war commander, along with several of his troops, has paid the ultimate price in the ongoing fight against insurgency.

The Nigerian Army confirmed the casualties in a statement released hours ago titled “OPERATION HADIN KAI – ISOLATED INFILTRATION ATTACK ON CHARLIE 13 LOCATION, MONGUNO.”
The statement, signed by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, explained that “the Commanding Officer, while courageously moving to the troops’ location to personally assess the situation, encountered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) which severely damaged his vehicle, leading to his death alongside six other gallant personnel.”
Reports identified the deceased Commanding Officer as Colonel I A Mohammed, adding that more than 21 soldiers were reportedly killed during the encounter. This incident comes shortly after the death of Brigadier-General Oseni Braimah and some of his men in a separate Boko Haram attack on their base.
The statement issued on Monday by Lt.-Col. Sani Uba reads:
“Troops of Sector 3, Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) came under an isolated terrorist attack on Charlie 13 location in Monguno in the late hours of 12 April 2026. After intense exchange of fire, the terrorists were forced to retreat, while troops retained control of the location.
“Regrettably, the Commanding Officer, while courageously proceeding to the troops’ location to personally assess the situation, encountered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) which severely affected his vehicle, leading to his death alongside six other gallant personnel.
“His actions, even after the immediate threat had been neutralised, demonstrated the highest standards of military leadership — courage, selfless service, and leading from the front. His decision to move toward his troops in the midst of danger stands as a strong testament to his bravery, sense of duty, and unwavering commitment to their welfare and operational effectiveness.
“Operation HADIN KAI deeply mourns the loss of this outstanding officer and the other brave personnel who paid the supreme sacrifice in service to the nation. Their sacrifice will forever remain in the memory of the Armed Forces and the grateful nation they served.”
