CAF Fixes June–July 2027 Window for Historic Three-Nation AFCON
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially announced the schedule for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
According to the football governing body, the competition will run from June 19 to July 17, 2027. However, a decision has yet to be made on which of the three host nations — Uganda, Kenya, or Tanzania — will host the opening match or the final.
The timeline was confirmed following approval by the FIFA Council at a meeting held in Vancouver, Canada. Earlier concerns about the readiness of the host countries had sparked discussions about possibly moving the tournament to 2028, but that proposal was ultimately rejected.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe expressed confidence in the preparedness of the host nations and reaffirmed commitment to the original schedule.
“We have worked hard to ensure that the AFCON is held in East Africa, and our commitment remains unwavering. I am confident that we will organise a very successful AFCON in these three countries,” Motsepe said.
The 2027 tournament will be historic, marking the first time the Africa Cup of Nations will be jointly hosted by three countries. It will also signal the return of the competition to the East African region for the first time since the 1976 edition held in Ethiopia.
