The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced plans to mobilise 1.4 million members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for the 2027 general elections.

INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, disclosed this during a visit to the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, in Abuja. He explained that the meeting with the NYSC senior management team was aimed at appreciating the sacrifices corps members consistently make during election periods across the country.
Professor Amupitan described corps members as some of the most dedicated, educated and patriotic personnel engaged in election duties nationwide.
He further revealed that the Commission would deploy 52,446 corps members for the forthcoming governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states, as well as bye-elections scheduled to hold in Nasarawa, Enugu, Rivers, Ondo, Kebbi and Kano states.
According to the INEC Chairman, the Commission remains committed to strengthening collaboration with the NYSC and security agencies to ensure adequate safety measures are put in place for corps members participating in electoral assignments.
In his response, the Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, stated that the Memorandum of Understanding between both organisations was first concluded in 2011 and has been renewed periodically over the years.
He assured that the NYSC would continue to support not only the 2027 general elections but also off-cycle elections across the country, stressing the Scheme’s commitment to helping INEC achieve successful electoral processes.
