With the Adamawa State Local Government Elections scheduled for June 13, 2026, the State High Court has formally constituted the Local Government Election Petitions Tribunal, including accompanying appeal panels.
The Chief Registrar of the High Court, Mohammed Buba Abubakar, has confirmed that the panels are expected to be sworn into office imminently.
In an exclusive interview with our correspondent in Yola, Abubakar explained that while General elections fall under the sole jurisdiction of the Court of Appeal, the Adamawa State High Court has submitted the names of judges who will serve on the nation’s Election Petitions Tribunal nationwide.

Beyond electoral preparations, the Chief Registrar highlighted the judiciary-friendly posture of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, stating that the move is also aimed at supporting the Governor’s policies and programmes, which have significantly aided judicial jurisprudence.
Abubakar commended the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Hafsat Abdulrahman, applauding the synergy existing among the judiciary, legislature, and executive arms, which he said has tremendously propelled development in the state.
He described Governor Fintiri as the most judiciary-friendly Governor in the country, noting that the Governor has upgraded high court facilities to world-class standards.
“Presently, a lift or elevator is being installed to the office of the chief judge,” Abubakar said, adding that the Governor has fulfilled all promises made to ensure the smooth administration of justice in the state.
The forthcoming inauguration of the tribunal and appeal panels is seen as a critical step toward ensuring credible and transparent adjudication of disputes arising from the June 13, 2026, local government elections.
