Dr Sa’idu Abubakar Faces 16 Charges Over Alleged Diversion of ₦40bn in Bauchi
The Bauchi State High Court No. 5, presided over by Justice Muazu Abubakar, has ordered the remand of the former Accountant-General of Bauchi State, Dr.
Sa’idu Abubakar, in a correctional facility in Bauchi over allegations of financial misconduct involving about ₦40 billion.Dr. Abubakar was arraigned on a 16-count amended charge filed under Section 116 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Bauchi State, 2022.
The former Accountant-General pleaded not guilty to all the charges brought against him.
According to the charge sheet in Suit No. BA/205C/2025, the Bauchi State Government is listed as the complainant, while Dr. Abubakar is the sole defendant in the matter.
The prosecution alleged that between December 7, 2023, and January 9, 2024, while serving as Accountant-General and entrusted with the management of public funds, the defendant dishonestly misused and converted government funds for personal gain and other unauthorised purposes.
It further alleged that the funds were part of a multi-billion-naira loan secured from several financial institutions and purportedly designated for a non-existent contract involving the supply of 5,000 motorcycles, in addition to other banking transactions.
The prosecution argued that the alleged actions violate Section 315 and are punishable under Section 312 of the Bauchi State Penal Code Law, 2022.
Following the arraignment, Justice Abubakar ordered that the defendant be remanded in custody and adjourned the case until July 2, 2026, for the hearing of a preliminary objection filed by the defence counsel.
The matter is expected to proceed with arguments on preliminary issues before the commencement of the substantive trial.
