SDP Turns Attention To 2027 Elections After Resolving Leadership Battle

With its year-long leadership crisis now resolved, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) says it is repositioning itself for the 2027 general elections and offering Nigerians what it describes as a credible alternative platform.

National Chairman of the party, Professor Sadiq Gombe, made the declaration in Abuja while announcing that the party had successfully overcome internal disputes and secured recognition of its leadership structure.

According to him, the party is now focused on strengthening its organisation and presenting solutions to Nigeria’s pressing socio-economic challenges.

“The period of distraction is over. Our focus now is on building a stronger party, expanding our reach across the country and preparing for the responsibilities ahead,” Gombe said.

He highlighted the successful conduct of the party’s National Convention in Bauchi and the emergence of Dr. Prince Adewole Adebayo as the SDP’s presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 elections.

The chairman described the convention as a landmark achievement for the party.

“The SDP became the first political party in the country to successfully conduct both its national convention and presidential primary ahead of the 2027 general elections. This demonstrates our preparedness and commitment to democratic processes,” he stated.

Gombe said the party’s agenda would focus on quality education, healthcare, security, infrastructure, food security and youth empowerment.

“Nigerians are looking for practical solutions to the challenges confronting the nation. Our responsibility is to provide credible leadership and policies that can improve the lives of citizens,” he said.

Expressing confidence in the party’s prospects, he maintained that the SDP remains well-positioned to attract Nigerians seeking an alternative political platform.

“We believe the SDP represents the alternative many Nigerians have been waiting for. We will continue to present competent, visionary and patriotic candidates who understand the needs of our growing population,” he said.

Gombe also used the occasion to call for reconciliation among party members, stressing that unity would be crucial to achieving the party’s electoral ambitions.

“This is not the time for division. It is time for every member to come together and contribute to the growth of the party. Our doors remain open to those who wish to return and work with us,” he said.

He commended the judiciary, INEC, the media and the party’s presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo, for their support during the crisis.

While thanking supporters for their loyalty, Gombe urged members to remain committed to democratic values and nation-building.

“The SDP is entering a new chapter. We are united, focused and determined to provide Nigerians with the quality leadership they deserve,” he declared.
