Ahead of the 2027 senatorial election, residents of Lafia, particularly youths, have declared their unwavering support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial hopeful and former Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Dr.
Mike Omeri Agbo-Omeri.The declaration was made during the maiden meeting of a support group formed to sensitize, mobilize and galvanize backing for Dr. Omeri’s Senate bid. Speaking at the gathering, the group’s leader, Comrade Dura Emmanuel, said their decision to support Omeri was based on his outstanding record of public service, especially during his tenure as NOA Director-General.
According to Emmanuel, Dr. Omeri has consistently demonstrated commitment to the welfare of the people and remains the right choice to represent Nasarawa South Senatorial District in 2027.
“As the 2027 general elections approach, the people of Lafia Local Government Area have an opportunity to elect a leader with the experience, vision and capacity to provide quality representation at the National Assembly. That leader is Dr. Mike Omeri Agbo-Omeri (Obowu Kha Keana),” he said.
He described Omeri as a distinguished statesman whose record in public service, leadership and national development speaks for itself, adding that throughout his career and his time as NOA Director-General, he displayed integrity, competence and a passion for empowering people while promoting national unity.
Emmanuel further stated that Nasarawa South needs a senator who will champion policies that attract investments, improve road infrastructure, education, healthcare, security, agriculture, youth and women empowerment, and create jobs, rather than leaders focused solely on personal interests.
He urged all eligible voters, youths, women, elders and other stakeholders to unite behind Dr. Omeri, describing the election as a choice between purposeful leadership and empty promises.
“On election day, come out in large numbers, vote peacefully and encourage others to do the same. Together, we can build a brighter future for Nasarawa South, our state and our communities,” he added.
Also speaking, Alhaji Babangoshi Lafia recalled Dr. Omeri’s contributions to the development of Nasarawa State following its creation. He noted that Omeri served as the pioneer Commissioner for Culture, Youths, Sports and Social Development, during which the Ibrahim Abacha Youth Centre was built.
He added that as Commissioner for Information, Omeri played a key role in establishing the Nasarawa Broadcasting Service (NBS), while his later deployment to the Ministry of Works by the then Military Administrator, Abdullahi Ibrahim, led to the execution of several landmark projects.
According to Babangoshi, these projects included the Government House, Workers Village, Nasara Estate, the Specialist Hospital, the acquisition of the Abdullahi Adamu Estate from the Federal Government, and the launch of the state’s transport scheme, “Nasarawa on the Move.”
He described Dr. Omeri’s contributions to the development of Nasarawa State as legendary, saying they represent only a fraction of his achievements.
