Reality TV star and actress Mercy Eke has revealed that participating in Big Brother Naija is one of the biggest decisions she now regrets, despite acknowledging that the reality show opened doors to remarkable opportunities and success.
Speaking on a recent episode of Toke Moments hosted by media personality Toke Makinwa, the former BBNaija winner explained that adjusting to life after the show was far more difficult than she expected. She said the fame that followed her victory brought intense public scrutiny, making it hard to live a normal life even though it significantly boosted her career.
Mercy also reflected on her personal life, admitting that finding a life partner has become more challenging since leaving the reality show. She disclosed that she had dated men she financially supported, saying, “I regret going to Big Brother even though I love the benefits that come from it. I dey fall in love like mumu, now I said to myself that I want to marry, I want to marry, but it’s not easy. I have dated guys that I have given a lot of money to, not one, not two, because they don’t have.”
The actress further revealed that she eventually relocated abroad to begin a new chapter away from the pressures of celebrity life, adding that she had to adjust to a different lifestyle and work environment. She also spoke about the emotional burden of being in the public eye, saying many people project their frustrations onto celebrities because they envy the lives they appear to live.
Despite expressing regret over joining Big Brother Naija, Mercy Eke acknowledged that the platform transformed her career and provided opportunities that have played a major role in shaping her journey in the entertainment industry.
