Tinubu Pushes Senior Secondary Education Reform

President Bola Tinubu has urged the Senate to pass the National Senior Secondary Education Commission Amendment Bill 2026 into law.

The President’s request was contained in a letter addressed to the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, and read during plenary on Thursday.
In the letter, Tinubu said, “I am pleased to transmit to the Senate for consideration the National Senior Secondary Education Commission Amendment Bill.” He explained that the proposed legislation is aimed at strengthening the administration and governance of public senior secondary education in Nigeria.
President Tinubu stated that the Federal Executive Council approved the amendment bill at its meeting held on Thursday, April 30. He added that the Federal Ministry of Justice subsequently gazetted and finalised the bill in line with drafting standards and constitutional provisions.
According to the President, the request is driven by his administration’s commitment to strengthening educational institutions in the national interest.
“The National Senior Secondary Education Commission Amendment Bill is forwarded for legislative action by the National Assembly,” the President said, expressing hope that the Senate would consider the bill and grant it expeditious passage.
Following the presentation of the letter, Senate President Godswill Akpabio referred the bill to the Senate Committee on Rules and Business for further legislative action.
The committee is expected to report back to the Senate in plenary within one week.
