A frontline politician and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Engr Anselm Ijebor, has called for political maturity, patriotism and unity as the presidential candidate of the NDC, Peter Obi, unveils his campaign for the 2027 General Elections.

Addressing journalists in Abuja on Friday, Ijebor urged Nigerians to shun bitterness and embrace civility as the race for the presidential and National Assembly seats gathers momentum.

The astute politician said the democratic process had produced Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso as the party’s preferred candidates, who, he said, were determined and ready to right the wrongs in the country.
“As political activities officially commence towards the 2027 General Elections, I wish to appeal to Nigerians, supporters of Peter Obi and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, political actors and citizens across Nigeria to remain calm, peaceful and united as the political process continues to unfold,” he said.
He regretted that each time Peter Obi comes “with genuine aspirations, ideas, experience and a sincere desire to contribute to the development of our dear country,” others whom he described as enemies of Nigeria would rather stand against Obi than support his genuine intentions.
“In every democratic contest, many may aspire, but ultimately only one person can occupy the seat. Through the internal processes of parties, consultations and the political realities of the moment, the choice eventually settled on His Excellency, Peter Obi and Alhaji Rabiu Kwankwaso as the NDC preferred candidates,” he said.
Engr Anselm Ijebor said he accepted the choice of Peter Obi with maturity, loyalty and a deep understanding of the bigger picture, urging Nigerians to rally behind the NDC candidate to ensure that the nation is salvaged.
“The former Anambra governor, Peter Obi, and the former Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, have laid a strong foundation in several areas of governance and development. The task before Nigerians is to ensure that the progress, stability and investment ideas driving the direction of the country are sustained and strengthened beyond 2027.
“Peter Obi now carries the responsibility of taking that journey forward. Supporting him should therefore not be seen merely as supporting an individual; it should be viewed as supporting stability and the collective aspirations of the people of Nigeria,” he stated.
While canvassing support for the NDC candidate, Ijebor said the right of citizens to vote according to their conscience must prevail.
“At the same time, let me make it clear that every eligible citizen has the constitutional right to vote for the candidate and political party of his or her choice. That right must be conscious, genuine and respected,” he added.
He warned supporters against insults and provocation, saying politics should not destroy long-standing relationships.
“We must never allow political differences to destroy the relationships, friendships, communities and brotherhood that have existed among us for years. Politics will come and go, but Nigeria will remain our home.”
While calling for a formidable force among electorates and stakeholders across the geopolitical zones in Nigeria to remain united and work for the victory of Peter Obi, Ijebor said he wants to see sustained peace ahead of the 2027 elections.
