SDP Women Mobilise Nationwide For Greater Political Inclusion

The National Speaker of the Women Parliament of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Ambassador Hajiya Sa’adatu Abdullahi, has urged the party’s women leaders across the country to strengthen grassroots mobilisation ahead of future elections.

Ambassador Abdullahi made the call at a strategic meeting between the party’s national women leadership and state women leaders in Abuja.

She said women must organise themselves and build strong, functional structures across the states, wards and communities to ensure their voices and contributions are felt within the party and the country’s political space.

According to her, political success cannot be achieved through wishful thinking but through organisation, sacrifice, strategy, commitment and effective grassroots engagement.

The National Speaker said the SDP Women Parliament was determined to strengthen its structures and mobilise more women to actively participate in the party’s activities.

“This meeting gives us an opportunity to assess where we are, identify our weaknesses, strengthen our structures and develop practical strategies for taking the SDP message to every ward, community and household,” she said.

Abdullahi urged state women leaders to see themselves as strategic pillars of the party, stressing the need for focus, discipline, teamwork and commitment to the collective vision of the SDP.

She also called on the women to put aside their differences and work together, noting that unity among women would strengthen party structures and amplify their voices.

The National Speaker commended the state women leaders for their sacrifices, particularly those who travelled long distances to attend the meeting at their own expense.

She urged them to return to their various states with renewed determination and translate the resolutions of the meeting into measurable results.

“Our strength is in our unity, our power is in our organisation, and our weapon is our determination. We must organise, mobilise and deliver results,” she said.

Speaking at the meeting, the National Chairman of the SDP, Professor Sadiq Gombe, represented by the South-South Deputy National Chairman, Senator Ugochukwu Uba, assured women of greater inclusion in the affairs of the party.

He said the party was undergoing reforms and reorganisation to strengthen its structures and prepare for future political activities.

Professor Gombe said the SDP was committed to giving women their rightful place in political appointments, party activities and elections.

He added that the party’s forthcoming manifesto would outline its policies across various sectors, including provisions aimed at ensuring greater participation and inclusion of women.

The National Chairman described the SDP as an ideological party committed to the welfare of Nigerians and the principles contained in Chapter Two of the Nigerian Constitution.

He urged the women leaders to sustain their mobilisation efforts at the grassroots and prepare women across the country for active participation in the party’s future campaigns and activities.

Professor Gombe commended the National Woman Leader and other women leaders for their commitment and sacrifices in mobilising women for the growth of the SDP.
