The House of Representatives has urged Nigerian youths to take active roles in shaping the nation’s democratic future by participating fully in the 2027 general election.

Speaker of the House, Dr. Abbas Tajudeen, made the call in Abuja during a Youth Town Hall Meeting held as part of the 2026 National Assembly Open Week.
The event brought together lawmakers, senior government officials, development partners, youth leaders, civil society organisations and students to explore ways of strengthening youth participation in governance.
Represented by the House Majority Leader, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, the Speaker said young Nigerians have the power to influence the quality and credibility of the country’s democracy through their choices, conduct and active civic engagement.
He noted that the 10th House has made youth inclusion, leadership and development a key part of its legislative agenda, adding that the Youth Town Hall has become an institutional platform that allows young people to contribute meaningfully to policymaking and legislative reforms.
Also speaking, the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, praised the National Assembly for institutionalising the Youth Town Hall, describing it as an important platform for deepening youth engagement in governance.
Olawande said the Federal Government is implementing programmes focused on entrepreneurship, digital skills development, vocational training and youth financing, including the Nigerian Youth Academy and the proposed Youth Green Fund.
