History at the Bar! Badejo-Okusanya leads as NBA unveils 2026 election winners.
The Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has announced the full results of the association’s 2026 national election, with Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mrs.
Badejo-Okusanya defeated fellow Senior Advocates, Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe (SAN) and Olumuyiwa Akinboro (SAN), to become the second woman to lead the association and the first woman elected to the office.
According to the committee, Badejo-Okusanya secured 12,317 votes, representing 47.18 per cent of the total votes cast. Akangbe polled 7,934 votes (30.39 per cent), while Akinboro received 5,855 votes (22.43 per cent). A total of 26,184 lawyers participated in the election out of 82,172 eligible voters, representing a voter turnout of 31.86 per cent.
The committee also declared winners for other national offices. Chief Oghenero Okoro emerged as First Vice-President with 11,024 votes, while Egya Nuhu John and Pepple Iniobong Irene were returned unopposed as Second and Third Vice-Presidents, respectively. Afam O. Okeke won the position of General Secretary with 8,478 votes, Aghogho Gladys Okpomor emerged Assistant General Secretary with 14,312 votes, and Esther Ifeoma Jimoh was elected Treasurer unopposed.
Also elected were Audrey Chinelo Ofoegbunam as Welfare Secretary with 14,911 votes, Dr. Prince I. Azubuike as Publicity Secretary with 14,686 votes, Hadiza Nasir Ahmad as Assistant Publicity Secretary with 10,094 votes, Chidi Betsy Nnaji as Eastern Zone Representative with 10,497 votes, Rotimi Komolafe as Western Zone Representative with 14,816 votes, and Huwaila Muhammad Ibrahim as Northern Zone Representative with 13,327 votes.
The newly elected officials will oversee the affairs of the association during the 2026–2028 administration, with Badejo-Okusanya succeeding Mazi Afam Osigwe (SAN) as the NBA’s 33rd President.
