NNPP Regains Logo, Fields 365 Candidates Court Victory Boosts NNPP Election Drive

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has announced that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has restored the party’s original logo on its official portal following months of legal disputes over the party’s identity.

Speaking during a world press conference in Abuja, the party’s National Chairman, Dr. Agbo Major, described the development as a major victory for constitutional democracy and the rule of law. He said the party’s authentic logo—the Basket of Fruits on the Nigerian map—has replaced the disputed symbol on the INEC portal.
Dr. Major said Nigerians can now verify that the original logo has been restored, adding that the party challenged the logo change in court because the process did not comply with the Electoral Act and the Constitution. According to him, the court ruled in the party’s favour, leading to the reinstatement of the original emblem.
He noted that the judgment has resolved questions surrounding the identity and legitimacy of the NNPP, while urging members and supporters nationwide to remain united and intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of future elections.
On preparations for the forthcoming polls, the NNPP chairman disclosed that despite legal hurdles and limited time, the party successfully uploaded 365 National Assembly candidates, including placeholders, across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. He described the feat as remarkable considering the challenges the party encountered.
Dr. Major explained that placeholders were used in some constituencies pending the emergence of substantive candidates with the required capacity and commitment to contest on the party’s platform.
He further revealed that the party has concluded arrangements for governorship and state assembly candidates across the country. According to him, reports from the party secretariat indicate that all 36 states now have prospective governorship candidates as well as candidates for state legislative seats, with further details to be released after the completion of the second phase of the exercise.
The NNPP national chairman commended members of the National Working Committee, state chairmen and party supporters for their dedication and sacrifices, saying their efforts have contributed significantly to the party’s progress. He added that the achievements recorded within a short period reflect the party’s resilience and increasing acceptance nationwide.
Dr. Major, however, criticised INEC for what he described as delays in implementing previous court judgments involving the party. He argued that earlier compliance with the court’s decisions would have prevented some of the difficulties experienced during the candidate nomination process.
He nevertheless appreciated the electoral commission for granting a three-day extension for the upload of presidential and National Assembly candidates, describing the extension as helpful under the circumstances.
The NNPP chairman also disclosed that the party would approach the Federal High Court to seek legal interpretation on certain actions taken by INEC, particularly regarding what it considers the commission’s failure to promptly implement previous court orders.
Reaffirming the party’s commitment to democracy, constitutional order and the rule of law, Dr. Major said the NNPP would continue to pursue all legitimate legal avenues to protect the rights of its members and supporters. He expressed confidence that the recent developments have strengthened the party and positioned it for greater participation in Nigeria’s democratic process, maintaining that the NNPP remains united, focused and ready to offer Nigerians a credible political alternative.
