Sokoto Govt. Disowns Magician Over Viral Video
The Sokoto State APC-led Government has distanced itself from the activities of a magician popularly known as Mai Shaho, following the circulation of a viral video allegedly released by him.
In the video, the magician was reportedly seen burying a live goat while claiming that a governorship candidate of a political party in Sokoto State would not receive the support of the electorate.
In a statement, the state government categorically denied having any connection with the individual or his activities, stressing that it neither supports nor endorses the actions of magicians, irrespective of their political affiliations.
The government further stated that it has no association with the activities shown in the viral video and would not tolerate any conduct that contradicts the values, laws, and religious beliefs of the people of Sokoto State.
According to the statement, Sokoto is a predominantly Muslim state whose people remain committed to the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), his Companions, and the legacy of Sheikh Usman bin Fodiyo. It stressed that the government would not condone any act that runs contrary to these cherished values.
The government also advised individuals engaging in activities that violate the true teachings of Islam to desist immediately and urged the Sokoto State Hisbah Board to take appropriate action in line with the law.
The statement was signed by the Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Sokoto, Abubakar Bawa, on July 24, 2026.
