Kogi Poly Suspends Six Over Sex-for-Marks Allegations

The management of Kogi State Polytechnic has suspended six lecturers over various allegations, including sexual harassment, cultism, and the unauthorized sale of handouts and textbooks.
The institution disclosed that investigations into the allegations are ongoing. According to the Polytechnic’s Information and Public Relations Officer, John Onimisi, the lecturers were suspended on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, as part of the institution’s commitment to maintaining discipline and professionalism.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Lokoja, Onimisi said some of the affected lecturers were suspended for allegedly selling handouts and textbooks without authorization, while another was suspended over a sexual harassment allegation. The institution noted that the action followed concerns over alleged sex-for-marks practices, cult-related activities involving some lecturers and students, and other forms of misconduct.
Sources within the Polytechnic alleged that some female students had reported being sexually harassed by lecturers in exchange for better grades. The sources also claimed that cultism involving some staff members had become a growing concern. Another source attributed the situation to the weakening of disciplinary measures introduced by the previous administration. However, the Polytechnic emphasized that its disciplinary committee is thoroughly investigating all the allegations and assured that the outcome of the probe will be made public after the investigation is concluded.
