Aondoakaa: Benue Needs Security, Not Endless Condolences

The 2027 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State, Chief Michael Aondoakaa, SAN, has condemned the recent attack on Abaashwa community in Mbaasar, Nzorov Council Ward of Guma Local Government Area, where suspected armed herdsmen reportedly killed four people and injured several others.

In a statement issued by his Media Assistant, James Ian, Aondoakaa described the attack as barbaric and heartbreaking, saying it reflects the worsening security situation in Benue State. He extended his condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for the speedy recovery of those receiving treatment for injuries sustained during the attack.
The PDP governorship candidate expressed concern over the persistent insecurity in the state, stressing that the effectiveness of any security system should be measured by its ability to prevent attacks rather than responding after lives have already been lost. He noted that repeated assaults on Benue communities have forced many farmers to abandon their ancestral lands, posing a serious threat to the state’s agricultural economy.
Aondoakaa said the people of Benue are demanding practical security measures to end the recurring cycle of killings and displacement. He urged the Benue State Government to recognise that the protection of lives and property is its primary constitutional responsibility and should receive the highest priority. According to him, “Every available resource, every security architecture and every policy initiative should be directed towards achieving that sacred responsibility. Benue people deserve security, not endless condolences.”
He also expressed concern over reports that some injured victims faced delays in receiving prompt medical attention due to the ongoing industrial action by doctors in the state. He appealed to the authorities to put emergency measures in place to ensure victims of violent attacks receive immediate medical care capable of saving lives.
Chief Aondoakaa prayed for the peaceful repose of those who lost their lives in the Guma attack, divine healing for the injured, and God’s comfort for the bereaved families.
