WAEC Post Sparks Controversy as Lawyer Urges Davido to Apologise

A legal practitioner and author, Timothy Tugbiyele, has called on Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, to apologise to Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, over a social media post showing the governor’s alleged West African Examinations Council result.

Tugbiyele made the call in a now-trending video originally uploaded on Facebook on Monday, while reacting to the political exchanges ahead of the August 15 Osun State governorship election.

What Triggered the Post
The controversy began on Friday after Governor Okpebholo mocked Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke while campaigning for the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO.
Okpebholo criticised Adeleke’s leadership style, saying: “Before somebody signs paper, he will dance. Are you not tired? For four years, this man has been dancing. Before he takes breakfast, before he drinks tea, he will dance.”
Hours later, Davido, who has been actively campaigning for his uncle, Governor Adeleke, shared what appeared to be Okpebholo’s WAEC result on his Instagram Story. He posted it without a caption.
‘The Publication Was Inappropriate’
Reacting in the video, Tugbiyele said Davido should not have responded personally to the governor’s remarks.
“I watched a video when Governor Okpebholo called the governor of my state, Adeleke, the dancing governor. And the governor’s relation, David Adeleke, replied by publishing the WAEC Secondary School leaving result of Governor Okpebholo, the governor of Edo State,” he said.
According to the lawyer, even if the alleged result was not impressive, it should not have been used to ridicule the governor.
“The result is not good enough, but it’s possible. The governor did a resit. We are not aware of that, but I think Davido, David Adeleke’s publication is inappropriate,” Tugbiyele said.
He urged the singer to tender an apology, arguing that public figures should avoid dragging personal academic records into political debates.
The post has since sparked debate online, with supporters of both governors weighing in ahead of the Osun governorship poll scheduled for Friday, August 15, 2026.
