Medical Training: FG Targets World-Class Simulation Centres

The Federal Government says it will establish world-class Medical Simulation Centres across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones to expand training opportunities for students in the health sector.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, disclosed this in Abuja while receiving a report from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFund Medical Simulation Committee.
Dr. Alausa described the initiative as a major step towards providing high-quality practical training for medical, dental, nursing, pharmacy and other allied healthcare students.
He said the project aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to expand Nigeria’s healthcare workforce, noting that the need to strengthen practical training had become urgent due to the significant rise in enrolment into health-related programmes.

Dr. Alausa noted that annual admission into medical schools had risen from about 5,000 when President Tinubu assumed office to almost 12,000, adding that the target is to increase annual medical student enrolment to about 20,000 within the next three years.
The Minister commended the Chairman of the Medical Simulation Committee, Dr. Wale Suleiman, and other members for their commitment in preparing the report and advancing plans for the proposed centres.
