Okija Honours Philanthropist, Installs Sir Frank Anyijiofor Lord Mayor

It was a colourful and historic moment in the ancient town of Okija on Saturday, September 5, 2026, as Amb. Chief Dr. Sir Frank Obi Anyijiofor, Uduakomiri, Okosisi Na Okija, was officially installed as the Lord Mayor of Okija Agunaechemba.

The grand ceremony, held at the palace of HRM Igwe Emeka Nnamdi Okezie, Igwe Oka-Ije Okija II, attracted traditional rulers, dignitaries, business associates and hundreds of well-wishers from across Nigeria.

The day commenced with a majestic procession from the country home of the new Lord Mayor through the major streets of Okija. Accompanied by an entourage of traditional title holders, community leaders, cultural groups and a long motorcade, the procession reflected Sir Anyijiofor’s popularity and influence within the community.

Residents lined the streets in large numbers to witness the colourful spectacle, singing, dancing and offering prayers for the new Lord Mayor.

On arrival at the palace of Igwe Oka-Ije Okija II, Sir Anyijiofor joined other distinguished indigenes and friends who were also conferred with various chieftaincy titles by the revered monarch.

The presence of several of his friends and business associates among the recipients underscored Sir Anyijiofor’s wide network and his contributions to the growth of Okija and beyond.

Following his installation and the conferment of titles on other recipients, the Lord Mayor and his entourage returned to his residence for a grand reception.

The reception venue was tastefully decorated with elegant furniture, plush floor rugs and canopies. Guests were entertained with a rich blend of cultural performances featuring local musical bands from Anambra State and the renowned Edo Arise traditional group from Benin City, Edo State.

The compound came alive with masquerades, dance troupes and other traditional entertainers, who thrilled guests with captivating displays throughout the day.

Speaking to journalists at the event, Amb. Chief Dr. Sir Frank Anyijiofor expressed gratitude to God and the people of Okija for finding him worthy of the prestigious title.

“My community has recognized the little impact and progressive contributions I have made over the years. Today, they have deemed it fit to honour me with a chieftaincy title that befits my status. I am deeply humbled,” he said.

Recounting his humble beginnings, the new Lord Mayor said his early experiences shaped his desire to support the less privileged.

“When I was nobody, I understood how poor people feel. That experience shaped me and gave me the habit of assisting the less privileged in society. I moved from zero to somebody, and by God’s grace, I will continue to lift others,” he said.

He also paid tribute to his wife, describing her as a pillar of support throughout his journey.

“She stood by me when I had nothing. She believed in me and supported me to become somebody. This success story is also hers,” he said.

Sir Anyijiofor prayed for all guests and well-wishers, asking God to grant them journey mercies as they returned to their various destinations “in peace, with joy and without regret.”

The title of Lord Mayor of Okija Agunaechemba is one of the prime traditional chieftaincy positions in Okija, reserved for individuals of proven integrity, philanthropy and service to the community.

Saturday’s installation further cements Sir Frank Anyijiofor’s place as one of Okija’s foremost community builders and philanthropists.
