The Senate of Bayero University Kano (BUK) has approved the expulsion of 171 students for submitting falsified admission credentials.

The decision followed the 433rd Senate meeting held on March 4, 2026, after an investigation by the Senate Committee on Entry Qualification Irregularities.
In a statement published in the university’s weekly bulletin on Friday, BUK confirmed that the expelled students were found to have provided fake documents during their admission process.
“The Senate of Bayero University, Kano, at its 433rd meeting on March 4, 2026, has approved the expulsion of 171 students for falsifying their admission entry qualifications,” the statement read.
The university explained that the offense violates Section 20.7, Category A (vii) of its General Examinations and Academic Regulations, which mandates expulsion for such misconduct. The students affected come from various departments and levels, highlighting the university’s ongoing effort to maintain clean and credible academic records.
Separately, the Senate also approved the expulsion of Yusuf Muhammad Sani, a Civil Engineering student, for allegedly assaulting invigilators during an examination—an act that disrupted the conduct of the test and breached student disciplinary regulations.
BUK reiterated its commitment to academic integrity, stressing that violations of its rules will continue to attract strict consequences.
“This mass expulsion serves as a clear warning to current and prospective students that BUK maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward academic fraud and indiscipline,” the statement concluded.
