The President of the Association of Community Health Practitioners of Nigeria (ACHPN), Comrade Kabir Yahaya Ahmed, has felicitated with Muslims on the occasion of this year’s Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

In his Sallah message in Abuja, Comrade Kabir Ahmed advised Muslims to continue to imbibe the lessons of the holy month of Ramadan beyond the celebration.
He also emphasized the need for them to use the occasion to pray for Nigeria to overcome its security and economic challenges.
Comrade Kabir Ahmed, who expressed concern over the challenges confronting the less privileged in the country, called on wealthy Muslims to use the occasion of Eid-el-Fitr to put smiles on the faces of the needy, giving them a sense of belonging during and after the celebration.
On the forthcoming election of ACHPN, Comrade Kabir Yahaya Ahmed said the Association needed continuous effective leadership in Community Health Practice, as well as vision, integrity, and a deep understanding of the health needs of communities across the country. He therefore urged members to give him a second term to consolidate on the successes recorded during his first tenure.
According to him, he has over the years consistently demonstrated these qualities through his service and commitment to strengthening the professional development and recognition of Community Health Practitioners under the Association.
“My leadership has so far reflected the core values of: • Professional excellence
• Community-centered health service
• Unity among practitioners
• Advocacy for stronger Primary Health Care systems
For sustained progress, institutional stability, and continued advancement of the community health profession.”
He therefore solicited the support of members of ACHPN for another mandate to serve, with a view to taking the Association to greater heights.
He also used the opportunity to call for the overhaul of the nation’s Primary Healthcare System to enhance the wellbeing of Nigerians nationwide.
The ACHPN President further emphasized the need for increased recruitment of community health practitioners this year to address the workforce shortfall in primary healthcare centres across the country.
While expressing concern over the welfare of Community Health Practitioners, especially those posted to rural areas, Comrade Yahaya Ahmed called for measures to improve their remuneration and welfare this year to boost productivity and enhance effective healthcare delivery.
He advocated the upgrade of Primary Healthcare Centres through the provision of basic amenities, particularly electricity, consumables, and water supply, among other facilities necessary for effective service delivery.
Identifying healthcare delivery as key to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the National President of ACHPN urged governments at all levels to increase budgetary allocation to the health sector to combat child and maternal mortality in the country.
Comrade Kabir Yahaya Ahmed also called on some State Commissioners who deny Community Health Practitioners the opportunity to practice in their state facilities to have a change of heart, noting that such actions are contrary to efforts to achieve Universal Health Coverage.
He added that the Association would continue to complement government efforts toward repositioning the nation’s primary healthcare sector.
