Hon. Jafaaru Yakubu Commends Tinubu, China Harbour for Shabu–Lafia–Makurdi Bypass Progress
Hon. Jafaaru Yakubu, Chairman of the House Committee on Nigeria–China Parliamentary Friendship Relationship, has applauded President Bola Tinubu and China Harbour Engineering Company for the remarkable speed of work on the Shabu–Lafia–Makurdi bypass.
He described the project as a milestone achievement that reflects the President’s determination to revive abandoned infrastructure and the company’s commitment to timely delivery.Yakubu emphasized that the bypass, which had been left unattended for years, is now being executed with urgency under Tinubu’s leadership. He noted that the project is already transforming the region by easing traffic congestion, reducing travel time, and boosting economic activities between Nasarawa and Benue States. “This is a clear demonstration of how visionary leadership and international cooperation can deliver results that directly benefit our people,” he said.
The lawmaker also stressed that the construction of the bypass has significantly improved security in the area. With increased presence of workers, equipment, and movement along the corridor, criminal activities have been curtailed, making travel safer for commuters, traders, and farmers. “Beyond the economic gains, this project is restoring peace of mind to our communities,” Yakubu added.
During an inspection tour, Minister of Works David Umahi, representing the President, reiterated that the bypass is part of a broader infrastructure agenda aimed at modernizing Nigeria’s highways. Federal Controller of Works, Manri Ishiaku, commended China Harbour’s efficiency, describing the bypass as a “game‑changer” for the North‑Central region.
Yakubu underscored the importance of Nigeria’s partnership with China, pointing out that projects like the Shabu–Lafia–Makurdi bypass showcase the tangible results of bilateral cooperation. He praised President Tinubu for his resolve to complete abandoned projects, saying such determination restores public confidence in government’s ability to deliver.
Residents of Nasarawa and Benue States have expressed optimism that the bypass will transform their daily lives. Traders anticipate easier access to markets, farmers expect smoother transportation of produce, and commuters look forward to reduced travel stress. Community leaders have welcomed the project, describing it as a long‑awaited intervention that will boost local economies, foster regional integration, and enhance safety along the corridor.
With construction advancing ahead of schedule, Hon. Jafaaru Yakubu’s commendation underscores the broader message: Nigeria can deliver world‑class infrastructure when leadership is decisive, partnerships are honored, and contractors are held accountable — while also improving the security and wellbeing of communities.
