Osanipin Advocates Development of Auto Sport Talent to Boost Nigeria’s Automotive Industry
The Director General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), Otunba Oluwemimo Osanipin, has called on stakeholders to effectively harness Nigeria’s talents and potentials in auto sport to drive the growth and development of the sector.
Otunba Oluwemimo Osanipin made this call while speaking at an Auto Sport Show held in Abuja.
He described auto sport as a hallmark of technological advancement, noting that it involves transforming standard vehicles through deep technical expertise to suit different conditions. According to him, it goes beyond basic vehicle repairs and represents the practical application of science to overcome challenges.
He further stated that auto sport has significantly influenced the global automotive industry.
“We have a lot of talents in auto sport in Nigeria, and what we need to do is to refine and polish them. Auto sport is a big business. Today, we have a 16-year-old boy in the UK thriving on behalf of Nigeria, earning a living from it. His parents have relocated to the UK to support him. We want to produce more young talents like him, hence the need for this event,” the NADDC DG said.
He added, “By bringing structure to auto sport, we are building a workforce of specialized engineers, safety experts, and innovators who will drive our nation forward and contribute to national economic development.”
Osanipin also expressed the readiness of NADDC to support Niger Auto Sport in promoting the sector and strengthening the growth of Nigeria’s automobile industry.
In her remarks, the President of Niger Auto Sport, Dr. Zarah Abubakar, advised youths to take advantage of opportunities in auto sport for self-empowerment.
She also urged the Nigeria Sports Commission (NSC) to develop greater interest in advancing auto sport in the country.
Dr. Abubakar further revealed that plans have been concluded to host an auto sport event in Ondo State as part of efforts to further promote the industry in Nigeria.
