Senator Seriake Dickson Defects from PDP to NDC, Cites Crisis in Opposition Party

Senator Seriake Dickson, a former Governor of Bayelsa State, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

Dickson, who represents Bayelsa West Senatorial District, announced his defection to the newly registered political party during a World Press Conference held on Thursday at his residence in Abuja.
He described the state of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as deteriorating, saying he could no longer continue his membership in the party.
Dickson lamented what he called the pitiable condition of the PDP, a party he said once brought hope and excitement to his people but had now become gravely ill.
“The PDP is sick and presently in the ICU,” he said.
According to him, some governors weakened the strength of the PDP by aligning with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), a development he noted further worsened the party’s situation and eroded its viability as an opposition platform.
Following his decision to join the NDC, the party’s flag was immediately handed over to him along with his membership registration bearing card number “001,” symbolising his position as one of the pioneering members of the party.
