From Dooshima Terkura, Makurdi
As part of ongoing pre-wet season farming operations, troops of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Intervention Battalion XI under Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have arrested three suspects in the Agasha area of Benue State and recovered an AK-47 rifle along with ammunition.
This was disclosed by the Force Commander of the Joint Task Force OPWS, Major General Moses Gara, in a statement signed by the Acting Media Information Officer at the Headquarters of JTF OPWS, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, and made available to journalists in Makurdi.
According to Major General Gara, troops have sustained clearance operations in identified flashpoints based on credible intelligence. He explained that following reports about the presence of suspected terrorists in the Agasha general area, troops advanced tactically to the location.
He stated that upon arrival, the troops swiftly cordoned off the area, leading to the arrest of three suspects identified as Sule Ibrahim and Salmanu Risko, both from Nasarawa State, as well as Abdulkareem Haruna from Jos.
Items recovered during the operation include one AK-47 rifle, two AK-47 magazines, 27 rounds of 7.62mm x 39 ammunition, a Tecno mobile phone, a cutlass, 10 sachets of alcohol, and assorted charms.
The Force Commander noted that the suspects are currently in military custody undergoing preliminary investigation and will be handed over for prosecution by the appropriate authorities.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the troops to sustain aggressive operations across the area, ensuring dominance of the operational environment to deny criminal elements freedom of action and to enhance security ahead of the farming season.
Major General Gara also commended the troops for their professionalism, resilience, and dedication in protecting law-abiding citizens within the Joint Operations Area.
