27 Women’s Teams Set to Clash for N10 Million in Bayelsa Prosperity Cup

Twenty-seven female teams will compete for a N10 million prize in the women’s category of the Bayelsa Governor’s Football Tournament, popularly known as the Prosperity Cup.

Matches will take place across four centres: Kpansia, Swali, Bishop Dimeari Grammar School (BDGS), and the Government House Golf Field in Onopa.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), defending champions Afini Ladies will face Bayelsa Queens Feeders in the ceremonial kick-off on April 9 at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa, following the weekly Prosperity Walk. The official women’s competition will commence on April 21, 2026, across all designated centres.
At the BDGS centre, Niger Delta University (NDU) Queens will play Flying Stars Queens FA, Bayelsa Princesses will meet Donbai Queens, and Active Ladies FA will face Police Machine. Bayelsa State College of Nursing Sciences (BYSCONS) Queens have a bye.
At Swali, Diongoli Babes will take on Igbogene Starlight United, Bayelsa Queens Feeders will play Federal University (FUO) Queens, and Gbarain Youth SC will meet Stardom Life Soccer Academy. Bayelsa Stars are on bye.
At Onopa, Sea Side Amazons FA will clash with Golden Sun Sports Club, Tigress FC of University of Africa, Toru Orua, will meet Golden Jeremiah United, while Ezougha Queens and Opu-Nembe Queens are on bye.
At Kpansia, Agbura Queens will face Crystal Stars FC, Bayelsa Medical University (BMU) Queens will play Atissa Queens, and Osaro Queens will challenge Orukarebai Queens. Defending champions Afini Ladies have a bye.
The Director-General of the Prosperity Cup, Ono Akpe, expressed delight with the number of participating teams, emphasizing that it reflects the growth of women’s football in Bayelsa. He called on teams to follow all tournament rules and ensure proper screening to prevent double registration of players.
Speaking on behalf of the women’s tournament committee, Chairman Zuzu Ebimotimi said preparations were complete for a smooth competition. She urged coaches and clubs to maintain discipline among players during and after matches.
