FCTA Moves to Partner Finland on Smart City and Clean Energy Drive in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) is exploring a partnership with Finland as part of efforts to transform Abuja into a modern and sustainable smart city.

This was disclosed by the FCT Minister, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, during a courtesy visit by the Finnish Ambassador to Nigeria, Her Excellency Sanna Selin.
Wike identified infrastructure and agriculture as major areas of collaboration, expressing readiness to leverage Finland’s expertise in green technology and digital services. He emphasized the importance of such partnerships in managing Abuja’s rapid growth, stating that the administration is open to working with sister cities, particularly in infrastructure and agricultural development.
The Minister also showed interest in learning from Finland’s urban development models and engaging capable firms in waste management, noting that discussions in that area would be beneficial for the FCT.
In her remarks, Ambassador Selin praised the ongoing infrastructural development and improved security in the FCT. She reiterated Finland’s interest in strengthening cooperation with Abuja, especially in renewable energy and digital innovation, which align with the territory’s development agenda.
The FCTA further reassured members of the diplomatic community of continued safety, pointing to the increasing level of construction activities as evidence of enhanced security and stability in the territory.
