FHA Flags Off Renewed Hope Housing Estate Project in Abia
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Hon. Oyetunde Ojo, has affirmed that the Authority is fully ready to commence the construction of Renewed Hope Housing Estates across the country.
He made this known on Tuesday, April 11, 2024, during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Renewed Hope Housing Estate in Umuahia, Abia State.
According to Hon. Ojo, “the event is a demonstration of our commitment to actualising the Renewed Hope Housing Programme initiated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in all states of Nigeria.”
He explained that the decision of the FHA management to kick-start the programme in the South-East, beginning with Abia State, was deliberate, citing the encouragement, assurances, and enthusiasm shown by the people of the state toward the project.
The FHA boss described the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, as a natural leader who is deeply committed to the welfare of his people.
Hon. Ojo recalled that upon assumption of office, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu tasked his management with the responsibility of providing affordable and livable housing for Nigerians under the Renewed Hope Housing Initiative.
He noted that the mandate was clear, unambiguous, and apolitical, irrespective of party affiliations.
He added that this directive led the management team to 28 states in search of suitable land, and on May 9, 2024, Governor Alex Otti received the delegation and provided the Authority with 100 hectares of land.
The Managing Director stated that since acquiring land from various state governments, the Authority has been working diligently to ensure the successful execution of the project, having already conducted groundbreaking ceremonies in Akwa Ibom and Kaduna States.
He explained that the management took time to thoroughly assess all factors before commencing the project to avoid any setbacks.
“In view of situational contingencies, we had to double-check before starting, to ensure that no major challenges would stall the project, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive that the era of abandoned projects is over,” he said.
Hon. Ojo assured the people of Abia State that the FHA would deliver on its promises, stressing that the Authority’s mandate under the Renewed Hope agenda goes beyond housing provision to include infrastructure and facilities that enhance quality of life.
He further assured the governor that FHA would not only develop the land but also create a conducive environment, consistent with its established standards.
The FHA boss also appealed to the host community to provide maximum cooperation to ensure the success of the project.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Groundbreaking Committee and Executive Director, Estate Services, Arc. Ezekiel Nya Etok, commended Governor Otti for his dedication and commitment to the welfare of his people.
He congratulated the governor for facilitating FHA’s entry into Abia State and reiterated the Authority’s determination to deliver the project.
Also speaking, the General Manager, Partnerships, Arc. Peter Okpanachi, provided an overview of the project, stating that about 1,200 housing units of different categories would be constructed to cater to various segments of society.
He explained that the housing types would include bungalows, blocks of flats, terraces, and detached duplexes.
He added that the Authority would adopt multiple delivery models, including direct construction, partnerships, and site-and-services schemes.
In his remarks, the Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, thanked the FHA Managing Director and his team for their sustained interest in partnering with the state.
He described Hon. Ojo as honest, upright, and hardworking.
Governor Otti also urged Nigerians to set aside politics and religion when pursuing development and welfare, describing them as distractions.
