Ichogwa Attah of Okpachala-Ogbagbada Passes On, Burial Rites Announced
The Ichogwa Attah of Okpachala-Ogbagbada in Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area, Chief Agono Augustine Acheneje, has passed away at the age of 74.
His death was announced in a statement issued to journalists by Prince Sunday Inah, a prominent indigene of the community and Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Karomsi Hotel and Garden, Lokoja.
The late traditional ruler is survived by his wives, 18 children, 50 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and numerous relatives.
According to the burial arrangements, his remains will leave Saint Boniface Mortuary, Aiykpele Oji-Ofa Ajaka, on April 23, 2026, for his residence at Okpachala-Ogbagbada, where a wake will commence at 4:00 p.m.
The funeral service is scheduled to take place on April 24, 2026, at the Foursquare Gospel Church, Ofiji–Idah, by 10:00 a.m., after which he will be laid to rest at his residence in Okpachala-Ogbagbada, Igalamela/Odolu LGA.
Born in 1952 to the family of the late Pa Acheneje Oyibo and Mrs Ayeh Okpanachi, both from Kogi State, Chief Acheneje began his early education at St. Michael Primary School, Ofiji–Idah, obtaining his primary school certificate in 1972. He later earned his O-level certificate from the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB).
He began his career with the Benue State Government in 1987, serving in the Ministry of Works and Housing as a security personnel. In 1990, he was transferred to the Ministry of Education following his promotion. Over the years, he attended several training programmes in security management and rose to the position of Assistant Security Instructor before retiring in 2020.
In his early years, he was actively involved in farming and fishing and was known for his courage, strong faith, and steadfast character.
He embraced Christianity in 2000 and became a devoted member of the Foursquare Gospel Church, dedicating the rest of his life to the service of God.
Following the death of his predecessor, the late Chief Inah Oyibo, he was unanimously selected by kingmakers and crowned in 2022 by the Attah Igala-in-Council as the Ichogwa Attah of Okpachala-Ogbagbada. He was later elevated to a third-class traditional ruler and became a member of the Igalamela/Odolu Traditional Council.
Though his time on the throne was relatively short, his reign was described as impactful, marked by notable contributions to the development and history of Okpachala-Ogbagbada.
He is remembered for his service, leadership, and enduring legacy in the community.
