Panic has gripped parts of Abuja as authorities in Kuje Area Council imposed a 6pm to 6am curfew following intelligence reports suggesting that members of Boko Haram are allegedly planning another attack on the Medium Security Custodial Centre in the area.

According to a security alert circulating mainly on social media, residents have been urged to strictly comply with the curfew directive. The alert reportedly followed an emergency security meeting convened by the leadership of the Area Council.
Areas affected by the curfew include locations from Wowo garage to Chibiri village, passing in front of the Correctional Centre, as well as Shadadi, Shetuko, and Kango villages.
Residents were specifically advised to return to their homes before 6pm to avoid any confrontation with security operatives, noting that the decision was reached by the Kuje Area Council Security Committee.
Although no detailed explanation was given for the curfew, a senior police officer confirmed the threat, stating that “the bad guys are planning to storm the Correctional Center again.”
Security presence has since intensified, with a combined team of police and soldiers patrolling major parts of the Area Council, sounding sirens and visibly armed.
The development has revived memories of the July 5, 2022 night attack on the same facility, during which about 879 inmates escaped, including several suspects linked to Boko Haram.
That attack, carried out by armed militants believed to be largely from ISWAP, a faction of Boko Haram, was swift but highly coordinated, lasting less than an hour. The attackers used explosives and heavy gunfire to breach the prison facility.
