Tension has continued to rise in Ifite Ogwari community, located in Ayamelum Local Government Area of Anambra State, following the reported killing of three persons during a violent confrontation involving local youths and operatives of the Agunechemba security outfit.

The crisis was said to have started after a young man accused of theft was allegedly beaten to death on Thursday.
Angered by the development, some youths reportedly carried the corpse of the deceased in protest to the office of the security outfit. During the protest, several houses were allegedly vandalized, while an operational vehicle belonging to the outfit was reportedly set ablaze.
The protest later degenerated into a violent clash between the youths and the security operatives, resulting in the reported death of two more persons.
A member of the Traditional Ruling Council of Ifite Ogwari, who spoke on condition of anonymity, expressed sadness over the incident. He disclosed that community leaders and the Town Union had intervened to restore calm in the area.
Reacting to the development, the member representing Ayamelum Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Mr. Bernard Udemezue, described the incident as unfortunate.
According to the lawmaker, the crisis stemmed from the alleged abuse of power by the local security outfit and the overreaction of some youths within the community.
“The incident is an unfortunate one that we never wished for. We are calling for calm so that the appropriate authorities can come in and handle the situation and ensure justice for all concerned,” Udemezue said.
While sympathizing with the bereaved families, the lawmaker stated that about three persons were reportedly killed during the violence.
He also prayed for God to grant the affected families the strength to bear the loss of their loved ones.
When contacted, the spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the command was yet to receive an official briefing on the incident.
