Tragedy in Plateau as Gunmen Kill Pregnant Woman, Husband, Leave Twin Boys Orphaned
By our Correspondent
Gunmen have reportedly killed a man and his pregnant wife in Angwan Ishaku community of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Plateau State, leaving behind their one-year-old twin boys.
The incident occurred around 4:35 p.m. on Wednesday, according to the Berom Youth Moulder Association.
In a statement issued by the association’s Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong, the attackers invaded the area on a motorcycle and opened fire on residents before escaping towards Fulani settlements in Fass along the Rakung-Sho Road.
The deceased woman, identified as Mrs Grace Iliya, died instantly during the attack, while her husband, who sustained serious gunshot injuries while working outside their residence, later died in hospital.
The association disclosed that Mrs Iliya had only recently stopped breastfeeding her one-year-old twin sons and was pregnant at the time of the incident.
Two other residents were also injured during the attack, although their condition had not been officially confirmed as of the time the statement was released.
Condemning the killings, the Berom Youth Moulder Association described the attack as “barbaric and inhuman,” noting that it further highlighted the persistent insecurity affecting Barkin Ladi and neighbouring communities despite ongoing peace efforts by the government and relevant stakeholders.
The group urged the military and other security agencies to intensify coordinated operations in Fass and Mahanga communities with the aim of arresting those behind the attack.
The latest incident comes barely two days after Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, visited Barkin Ladi to sympathise with residents affected by recent violence in the area.
