Troops Crush Terrorists in Yobe, Southern Borno, Recover Massive Cache of Arms
Troops eliminate over 250 terrorists in Yobe, southern Borno, seize 150 weapons
The Commander of Sector 2, Operation HADIN KAI, Brig.
Martins made this known on Tuesday while briefing journalists in Damaturu on the achievements recorded within the sector’s Area of Responsibility (AOR).
According to him, the military successes were achieved through sustained offensive and defensive actions designed to weaken terrorist activities and improve security in affected communities.
He explained that troops carried out extensive clearance missions into previously inaccessible insurgent hideouts within the Timbuktu Triangle, including Buk, Chileria, Kafa, Abbagajiri and Maisani.
The commander stated that over 50 insurgents were killed during offensives conducted in the Timbuktu Triangle, Bulabulin Forest and several other terrorist enclaves.
He further revealed that troops successfully repelled coordinated attacks targeting military formations in Kukareta, Forward Operating Base (FOB) Azir, Gonori, Buni Gari and Katarko, among other locations.
Martins noted that the failed assaults led to the death of more than 200 terrorists.
He added that troops recovered more than 150 assorted weapons and a large quantity of ammunition during the operations.
Among the items recovered were AK-47 rifles, PKT machine guns, Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) launchers, hand grenades, mortar bombs, motorcycles, communication devices and materials used for Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
The commander also disclosed that troops discovered and destroyed terrorist logistics facilities, detention camps, IED-making sites and Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIEDs) in Chileria, Buk and other identified areas.
Martins said intelligence-led operations also disrupted terrorist supply chains, resulting in the arrest of over 30 suspected collaborators, couriers and logistics suppliers.
He stated that troops intercepted consignments of drugs, Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and medical supplies believed to be intended for insurgent groups.
The sector commander attributed the operational gains to sustained military pressure, improved intelligence gathering and enhanced cooperation between security forces and local communities.
He reaffirmed the commitment of troops under Sector 2 to continue operations aimed at eliminating all remaining terrorist threats in the North-East region.
