How Sallah Outing Ended in Shock as Security Guard Allegedly Abducts Employer’s Twin Sons in Minna

What was meant to be a joyful Sallah celebration has turned into a traumatic ordeal for a businessman in Minna after his private security guard allegedly abducted his six-year-old twin sons and later demanded ransom for their release.

The suspect, identified as Sani Abdulrahaman, a Fulani man employed as a security guard, reportedly left with Umaru and Anas Danjuma on Sunday, May 31, after informing their father, Alhaji Danjuma, that he was taking them into town for a “Sallah picnic.” He never returned with the children.
“He Never Came Back”
Speaking to reporters, Alhaji Danjuma said he immediately raised the alarm when the guard failed to return. He appealed to members of the public and security agencies to assist in locating both the children and the suspect.
The situation took a disturbing turn later that evening when he received a phone call from an individual who claimed to be holding the twins in Erena forest, located in Shiroro Local Government Area. According to Danjuma, the caller demanded an undisclosed ransom for the boys’ release.
Police Confirm Abduction
The spokesperson of the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident, stating that it occurred at about 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
“The security man pretended that he was taking the children for Sallah celebration in the town, but did not return,” Abiodun said.
He added that the police suspect an abduction and have commenced efforts to locate the children.
“Investigation has commenced and efforts to locate the children are ongoing,” the police spokesman stated.
Growing Concern Over Insider-Linked Abductions
The incident has renewed concerns about crimes allegedly involving domestic workers and private security personnel. Security experts have repeatedly advised employers to thoroughly vet domestic staff, limit unsupervised access to children, and adopt basic safety and tracking measures.
Erena forest in Shiroro Local Government Area has been identified in several security reports as a hideout for bandits. Its mention during the ransom call has raised concerns about possible connections to organised kidnapping groups operating along the Niger-Kaduna corridor.
Search Efforts Continue
Police authorities say efforts are ongoing to track down the suspect and secure the safe return of the children.
Meanwhile, Alhaji Danjuma has appealed to Nigerians who may have useful information about the whereabouts of the twins or the suspect to contact the relevant authorities.
For the Danjuma family, the Sallah celebration has been overshadowed by anxiety, prayers, and hope that Umaru and Anas will return home safely and unharmed.
