JAMB Celebrates Legacy of Integrity and Service as Prof. Abdulganiyu Ambali Passes On

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali, OON, a renowned academic, accomplished administrator, and former Chairman of the Board’s Virtue Vanguard Group.

Professor Ambali was a distinguished patriot whose dedication to excellence, integrity, and service made a lasting impact on every institution he served. In his role as Chairman of the Virtue Vanguard Group, he demonstrated exceptional leadership in one of the Board’s key examination monitoring and quality assurance teams. Through his insight, commitment, and steadfast adherence to ethical principles, the group played a significant role in enhancing the credibility, transparency, and integrity of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
His impact extended far beyond routine supervisory responsibilities. He served as a mentor to many, a voice of wisdom, and a committed advocate of the values that continue to guide the Board’s examination processes. The improvements witnessed in the conduct of the UTME over the years reflect the collective efforts of dedicated stakeholders such as Professor Ambali, whose passion for advancing education remained unwavering throughout his life.
JAMB recalled with appreciation his remarkable contributions to the development of education in Nigeria, not only as a former Vice-Chancellor of the and a scholar of international standing, but also as a respected statesman whose advice was consistently guided by the national interest.
According to the Board, his passing represents a significant loss to the educational sector, the nation, and all who had the opportunity to work with him. While mourning his departure, JAMB noted that his enduring legacy of integrity, diligence, humility, and selfless service will continue to inspire future generations.
The Registrar, management, and entire workforce of JAMB extended their sincere condolences to his family, the government and people of Kwara State, the management and staff of the University of Ilorin, and the wider academic community.
The Board also prayed that Almighty Allah forgives his shortcomings, accepts his good deeds, grants him Al-Jannatul Firdaus, and provides strength and comfort to his family, friends, colleagues, and associates during this difficult period.
