President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on young Nigerians to remain in the country and actively contribute to its development, emphasizing that their talents, creativity, and skills are critical to the nation’s progress.

The President made the appeal on Friday while delivering his Democracy Day address in Abuja, where he highlighted the importance of youth participation in governance, innovation, and economic development.
Addressing young Nigerians directly, Tinubu described Nigeria as the best place for their growth and future opportunities. He encouraged them to focus their energy on creating solutions within the country rather than seeking opportunities abroad.
“To our young people: Nigeria is your home and your future. Build here, code here, work here, and vote here,” he said.
Tinubu noted that meaningful national development depends on citizens who choose to confront challenges and contribute to solutions rather than leave. He stressed that lasting progress is achieved by people who remain committed to improving their societies.
According to the President, nations that have enjoyed long-term stability and economic growth were built by individuals who stayed through difficult times and worked to make conditions better from within.
His remarks come amid the continued migration of young professionals and skilled workers to other countries in search of better opportunities, a phenomenon commonly known as “Japa.”
Tinubu encouraged greater youth involvement in entrepreneurship, technology, and civic engagement, stating that young Nigerians have a vital role to play in driving economic growth and national transformation.
He also underscored the importance of participating in elections and civic activities, describing them as key instruments for promoting accountability and influencing governance.
The President further stated that his administration is implementing reforms and initiatives aimed at creating more employment opportunities, supporting innovation, and improving economic conditions for young people across the country.
He expressed confidence that sustained youth engagement would strengthen national development and help address the challenges facing the nation.
